What are Mob Divisions used for?

September 8, 2015 in Farmware Tip

A Mob Division is essentially a mob-within-a-mob. Having two tiers of mobs allows you to have a single mob that is separated into subgroups for management or reference purposes. For example, maybe you have Merino Ewes which you would like to regard as a single mob but they are divided into smaller mobs in different paddocks as breeding lines, or maybe preg tested and separated by singles, multiple and dry.

You can move Mob Divisions around independently or recombine them back into a single level Mob - it's basically extra flexibility to more accurately represent your mobs as they actually exist!

To divide a mob, go to: Add Livestock Activity > Mob Management > Divide.

Farmware Q & A: Viewing ewes and lambs separately

September 8, 2015 in Farmware Tip

Question: I always need to see the total number of ewes and lambs separately on my Farmware livestock summary, how can I do this?

Answer: One way to achieve this is to store ewes and lambs as separate mobs. You can then use the Divide activity to create multiple mob divisions based on paddock distributions. Mobs and mob divisions can be on any number and any combination of paddocks, so doing it this way you can have all your lambs across several paddocks - with their ewes - and when you go to the Livestock Summary it will display your total count of ewes and lambs at any point in time.
